Russell Peters: Backstage Artist Hospitality in Egypt
Backstage hospitality for headline performer Russell Peters and his controlled-access backstage circle during the Cairo stop of the Act Your Age world tour on 19 February 2024.
- DATE: 19 FEB 2024
- SHOW: ACT YOUR AGE WORLD TOUR
- VENUE: SPORTS CITY STADIUM
- HOSPITALITY FOCUS: HEADLINE ARTIST + BACKSTAGE CIRCLE
- LORIENTAL SCOPE: ARTIST RIDER + BACKSTAGE HOSPITALITY
Hospitality for the headline performer
Russell Peters’ 19 February 2024 show took place at Sports City Stadium in Egypt’s New Administrative Capital. R Creates organised the event, with Live Nation and the Administrative Capital for Urban Development presenting it. LOriental came into the production through its existing relationship with Hassan Ramzy of R Creates.
LOriental was responsible for the headline performer’s backstage hospitality and the controlled-access group around him, with the service built around the requirements and timing of Peters’ touring rider.
A rider built around timing
The unusual part of the assignment was precision. The touring rider tied food and refreshments to the artist’s arrival, show timing and post-show needs, creating several distinct service moments across the full production day.
The rider called for catering to be ready before arrival, refrigerated food to remain available for later use, and dinner to be split into two service waves. One group could eat earlier, while a fresh second service could align with the artist’s arrival.
It also specified ingredient exclusions, still-water preferences, timed ice requirements and proper crockery and cutlery. Together, those details turned the assignment into a tightly controlled backstage hospitality operation.
The backstage pantry
The dressing-room requirements extended beyond dinner. Two minibar refrigerators were installed in separate changing rooms and kept fully stocked throughout the production day. The rider also called for fruit and vegetables, hummus and dips, cheese and artisan crackers, chips, cake and cupcakes, soft drinks, chocolate milk and carefully specified water service.
The pantry had to cover quick food before the show, a proper meal before stage time and refreshments that remained available after the performance and meet-and-greet.
A separate LOriental dinner menu
The touring rider set the backstage requirements, and LOriental developed the dinner menu around them. The menu combined familiar comfort food with lighter options and the snacks and platters needed across the longer show-day schedule.
The rider originally specified KFC. Based on the production schedule, LOriental advised that delivery and holding time could compromise the temperature and crispness of the chicken, and proposed house-made country-fried chicken instead. It was fried on site so it reached backstage hot and crisp, served with mashed potatoes and gravy. The wider menu included a tossed salad bar with three dressings, grilled vegetables, baked salmon with a choice of lemon-butter caper sauce or teriyaki, shepherd’s pie with sesame-garlic basmati rice, and a gourmet burger with caramelised onion and sautéed mushrooms.
Fruit, refrigerated vegetable platters, hummus, cheese and artisan crackers supported the wider backstage service across the day.
High-touch service inside controlled backstage access
The assignment required dedicated English-speaking hostesses sourced specifically for the backstage environment, precise refresh timing and service through restricted-access production areas. In an artist-rider setting, a late refresh, a missing item or an incorrect ingredient would be immediately visible.
Food timing, dressing-room readiness, minibar replenishment, post-show availability and on-site finishing all had to stay aligned with the show schedule while remaining unobtrusive to the touring team.
A high-touch artist hospitality operation
The level of customization was concentrated around one headline performer: dedicated backstage staffing, two continuously stocked minibar refrigerators, multiple timed service waves, rider-specific water and ice, proper crockery and cutlery, on-site frying and finishing, and a pantry maintained across the full production day.
The result was a calm, highly tailored backstage experience in which every detail was prepared around Peters’ schedule and preferences.
What the assignment demonstrates
The Russell Peters engagement shows LOriental’s ability to execute high-touch artist hospitality around a tightly specified touring rider, with schedule discipline, exact preferences, controlled access and dedicated resources throughout the production day.
It also reflects repeat trust. The opportunity came through Hassan Ramzy and R Creates after an existing LOriental client relationship, extending that relationship from private event work into a sensitive backstage production brief.
