A cultural evening built around a book, a conversation and a performance
On 21 March 2022, the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization hosted the launch and signing of Omar Khairat’s memoir, “The Rebel,” produced in cooperation with Nahdet Misr Publishing Group and Authentic Artist. The evening combined a guest reception, a discussion on Khairat’s life and career, the book signing itself and a live musical performance in NMEC’s Grand Theater.
Approximately 400 guests attended, including public figures, Egyptian artists, senior officials and ambassadors. Nahdet Misr appointed LOriental to provide premium canapés and desserts for the reception.
Hospitality that supported the programme
The evening followed the rhythm of a stage-led cultural programme. Guests arrived, greeted one another, moved through the signing and then transitioned into the theater programme, so the catering needed to remain easy to access throughout.
Canapés and small desserts were the right format for that rhythm. They gave the reception enough polish for a high-profile audience while remaining compatible with standing conversation, book-signing movement and a live performance schedule.
A deliberately simple reception format
The catering solution was intentionally simple and proportionate. Premium canapés and small desserts gave the approximately 400 guests polished reception hospitality while fitting naturally around the signing, conversation and theater programme.
The first Nahdet Misr event
For LOriental, the evening became the starting point of a relationship with Nahdet Misr Publishing Group. Later in 2022, Nahdet Misr appointed LOriental again for the discussion and signing of Reem Bassiouney’s “El Halawani” at Wekalet El Ghoury.
The repeat appointment established a recurring cultural-event relationship with Nahdet Misr and made the Omar Khairat evening the starting point for further work with the publisher.
“The Omar Khairat autobiography launch was a demanding event, with a large guest list, a book signing and a live performance all unfolding across the same evening. LOriental handled the catering with real control. The menu suited the occasion, the service moved smoothly around the programme, and the overall experience gave us complete confidence in the team. Over the years that followed, LOriental became one of our preferred catering partners, and we have worked with them on dozens of events.” - Kamla Sallam, Head of PR, Nahdet Misr Publishing House
The first NMEC event
The same evening was also LOriental’s first event at the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization. NMEC later became a recurring venue across cultural, diplomatic, institutional and brand-led assignments.
Over time, the relationship moved beyond repeat delivery. NMEC also began referring LOriental to clients seeking catering for events hosted at the museum.
Why this case matters
The Omar Khairat book signing matters because of what followed. A relatively straightforward canapé-and-dessert assignment became the first step into two long-running relationships: Nahdet Misr and NMEC.
It also demonstrates disciplined format selection. For a high-profile cultural programme with approximately 400 guests, compact reception hospitality was enough to support the audience, venue and programme without overwhelming any of them.
What this case demonstrates
The event provides a clear origin point in LOriental’s cultural and NMEC history: 21 March 2022, Omar Khairat’s memoir launch and musical performance, Nahdet Misr Publishing Group, the NMEC Grand Theater, approximately 400 guests and canapé-and-dessert catering.
