• Large & Lesser Known Citadel Spaces

    Bigger spaces. Different trade-offs.

The Citadel’s larger event venues are not interchangeable. Police Museum Courtyard gives you scale and panoramic views, El-Mahka works best when the guest count and production are genuinely large, while Royal Garden offers a softer historic setting with greenery and a built-in stage. There are also lesser-known spaces with different booking routes and operating conditions.

LOriental has worked across these settings and can help match the venue to the event before the catering and production plan is built around it.

The panoramic open canvas

Police Museum Plaza

Police Museum Plaza has one of the most dramatic panoramic views over Islamic Cairo and is one of the Citadel’s largest event spaces. Unlike the tighter courtyards, it reads as one enormous open plane with very little natural enclosure.

That makes it glamorous for full weddings and major corporate launches, but the planner has to create the event architecture: stage, zoning, lighting, dining areas, hospitality points and visual boundaries. Capacity is up to 700 guests for full weddings and events.

For catering, the scale means food and beverage should be distributed deliberately. A single distant point can make a large open space feel empty in one area and congested in another.

The true large-format option

El-Mahka Theatre

El-Mahka is a natural theatre, not a courtyard pretending to be one. It can host extremely glamorous weddings and major productions, but it makes most sense when the event is genuinely large. Capacity is up to 900 guests.

For a standard 300- or 400-person wedding, the scale can work against the atmosphere unless the production is intentionally designed around it. For a very large wedding, performance-led event or major corporate production, the theatre architecture becomes the advantage.

The softer Citadel setting

Royal Garden is a lesser-known Citadel event option that does not appear in the standard Konouz list. It is a true garden with trees, flowers and historical statuary, including figures from the Mohamed Ali Pasha era. A built-in elevated stage gives weddings and performances a natural focal point.

For clients who want the history of the Citadel without a fully stone courtyard, it offers a very different atmosphere.

Another off-list Citadel option

The Military Museum courtyard is another event space inside the Citadel that is not included in the standard Konouz venue list. LOriental knows it through first-hand event experience. Because the booking route is different from the main listed spaces, availability and operating conditions should be confirmed directly with the responsible authority rather than assumed from the standard Citadel packages.

A Guest List With Two Different Rhythms

On 19 September 2025, LOriental catered a 400-guest wedding at Police Museum Plaza inside the Cairo Citadel. The bride’s father was a Deputy Minister, and the guest list included senior VIPs, government officials and members of the diplomatic community.

The catering plan was shaped around how those guests were expected to use the event. Senior officials and VIPs would typically attend for a shorter period to congratulate the family before leaving earlier in the evening, while the younger guests were expected to stay through dinner and the full celebration.

Dedicated VIP Hospitality

The VIP tables were treated as dedicated hospitality zones. Each was set with generous charcuterie platters featuring imported cheeses, cold cuts, fruits and nuts, giving guests immediate access to substantial food without waiting for the main dinner service.

Dedicated service staff looked after these tables and maintained a continuous flow of Experiential Passaround, allowing VIP guests to be served quickly, discreetly and consistently during the shorter time they were at the event.

A More Interactive Dinner for the Younger Guests

For the younger guests staying through the evening, the dinner format was designed to be more social and interactive. LOriental created a large finger food buffet display alongside a substantial salad bar and multiple live cooking stations, including live pasta, burgers, Brazilian churrascaria, make-your-own tacos, and an immersive crepe and waffle station.

A live beverage bar and extensive Experiential Passaround continued throughout the evening, creating a broader hospitality experience suited to the pace and energy of the celebration.
