A screening with hospitality on both sides
On 29 October 2023, the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization hosted a screening of Netflix’s documentary Unknown: The Lost Pyramid as part of the museum’s Cinema and Civilization programme. LOriental joined the event, supporting approximately 150 guests with reception catering before and after the film.
The format dictated the hospitality. All food and beverage service took place in NMEC’s main entrance foyer, where guests were welcomed before the screening and returned after the film. No food or drink was permitted inside the theatre, so service was designed as two distinct reception windows around the screening.
Two reception moments around one film
Before the screening, LOriental served canapé and finger-food hospitality in the museum’s main entrance foyer as guests arrived and gathered. When guests moved into the theatre for the screening, food-and-beverage service remained outside in the foyer.
After the screening, guests returned to the main entrance foyer and the event reopened into conversation. Passed drinks kept service mobile and informal, allowing guests to circulate freely. The sequence of arrival reception, theatre screening and post-film hospitality matched the natural rhythm of the occasion.
Brand integration without taking over the room
Netflix branding appeared inside the hospitality layer rather than as a separate decorative theme. LOriental incorporated branded service trays and operated a Netflix-branded digital bar.
The digital display used the familiar Netflix startup logo animation. It was a recognizable cue that connected the bar to the screening while allowing the museum setting and the documentary itself to remain the focus.
Why NMEC fit the documentary
Unknown: The Lost Pyramid follows Egyptian archaeologists working at Saqqara in the search for ancient tombs, artifacts and a buried pyramid. Screening the film at NMEC gave the event a direct cultural connection to its subject matter rather than placing the documentary in a generic event venue.
The screening formed part of NMEC’s Cinema and Civilization initiative, with Netflix producing and co-presenting the documentary at the museum. For the hospitality, that context called for restraint: the service needed to support the cultural programme and brand presence without competing with either.
A museum reception designed to stay light
The post-screening period was the most social part of the event. Guests returned from the theatre to the main entrance foyer, where passed drinks and mobile service let the room loosen naturally after the film.
For LOriental, the operating logic centred on timing, movement and calibration. The foyer hospitality had to be ready for arrivals, pause while guests were inside the theatre, then resume smoothly when they returned after the screening.
What the assignment demonstrates
The Netflix screening adds a distinct type of entertainment hospitality to LOriental’s NMEC work: a museum-based film event where cultural context, a global media brand and guest flow all shaped the service format.
It also shows how brand integration can remain specific without becoming dominant. The branded trays and animated digital bar made the service recognizably connected to Netflix, while the overall reception remained appropriate to the museum and to a documentary centred on Egyptian archaeology.
