A company milestone inside a historic setting
Blu EV commissioned LOriental directly for the official launch of its operations in Egypt at Dar Al-Darb inside the Cairo Citadel. Blu EV managed the overall event in-house; LOriental’s responsibility covered the hospitality programme together with event décor and floral styling across the guest-facing spaces.
The occasion marked a significant operating milestone for the electric-mobility company. Blu EV’s own launch recap described the event as the beginning of its Egypt operations after more than two years of development, pilots and collaboration with public- and private-sector partners.
A reception built around the launch programme
The event was structured around speeches, a presentation by Blu EV CEO Rida Baalbaki and a live demonstration of the company’s battery-swapping system. A formal seated meal would have worked against that agenda, so the hospitality stayed mobile: passed canapés for approximately 100 guests and a live non-alcoholic bar that could operate around networking, presentations and the product demonstration.
The service format gave guests room to move while keeping food and beverages available throughout the reception. It also kept the technology presentation and the Citadel setting visually dominant, rather than turning the evening into a dinner-led event.
Senior guests, without changing the service rhythm
Blu EV’s official recap named senior government, diplomatic and business guests including Lt. Gen. Kamel El Wazeer, Dr. Sherif Farouk, Eng. Hassan El Khateeb, Moroccan Ambassador Mohamed Ait Ouali and Eng. Naguib Sawiris. The guest profile raised the visibility of the reception, but the operating answer remained deliberately simple: food and beverage needed to be polished, accessible and unobtrusive around the programme.
Sawiris was part of the company context as well as the guest list. Blu EV identifies him as Chairman of OIH & Blu EV, and Orascom Investment Holding had previously announced its role as Blu EV’s strategic partner and investor.
A future-facing mobility brand at Dar Al-Darb
Dar Al-Darb created an unusual visual contrast for the launch: a contemporary electric-mobility platform presenting its operating model inside the Cairo Citadel. That contrast gave the evening character without requiring LOriental to manufacture a separate theme around the food.
For the hospitality team, the venue also allowed the guest-facing reception to remain visually clean while catering support stayed separate from the programme itself. The service could follow the movement of the event from arrival and networking into speeches, demonstration and continued conversation.
Event décor and floral styling across the venue
LOriental was responsible for the event’s décor and floral styling, creating a consistent visual layer across the guest-facing spaces. The work included statement floral installations, branded blue-and-white floral arrangements, cocktail-table and lounge-table centrepieces, and decorative greenery integrated into the live bar.
Blu EV retained responsibility for the overall event production, including seating, furniture, lighting, staging and technical production. LOriental’s role was to give the environment its decorative identity and carry the brand visually through the reception, alongside the catering and live bar.
What the assignment demonstrates
The Blu EV launch combined a direct corporate appointment, an official market-entry milestone, approximately 100 guests, senior-level attendance, mobile canapé service, a live beverage format, event décor and floral styling, and delivery inside one of Cairo’s landmark heritage settings.
The strength of the assignment was also in the restraint of the solution. The programme already had speeches, company storytelling and a live battery-swapping demonstration. LOriental’s role was to make the hospitality and visual styling work around those moments, not compete with them.
